What does eye catching content even mean?
Well, it’s not easy to generate content for social media. There’s a lot of research to do, make sure your data is up to date, and afterwards, you need to post it on various social media platforms you have accounts on.
What’s even more frustrating is having your content, that you are working so hard on, ignored by your followers, simply because our feeds are so full of stuff, your posts are simply missed!
A really easy solution is to create a marketing campaign and invest in sponsored posts. What this is going to do is make sure your posts arrive to your audience (or to a fresh audience, depending on your campaign settings), for a certain sum of money per visualization. Yes, this might be a quick and easy solution, but not everybody has a budget to boost each and every one of their post.
Ok, I’m listening, give me your magical solution
No, I’m sorry, no magic here either. It’s all about creating posts that people will notice, want to open and/or share.
Jeff Bullas has written a very interesting article about creating engaging content that I really liked, so I’m going to expand on a couple of his pointers.
What many of us think, while creating our non eye catching content, is that posting it is enough, and that everybody will see it and appreciate it, only because we posted it. Well, the harsh truth is that not everybody is always interested in what we do.
But it’s not really always their fault!
Sometimes our content disappears in a sea of other posts and while scrolling, it just doesn’t get noticed. Or it simply doesn’t make the cut of what will go into our feed.
So my first tip for you is: Make it shareable
People love to share things with their friends. It’s what makes social media, well… social!
Writing about something that’s really fascinating, sharing a story that’ll make people laugh, or just taking a really, really, pretty photo, is much more likely to be shared with people, because of the quality of the content.
Sharing a post means that their friends will see it, even if they’re not following your page. But it also means another thing: A post that has been interacted with will get noticed by the social media platform engines. The more interactions it gets, the more “fame” it will get, and therefore the engine will deem it worthy and feature it on other people’s post feeds.
If your post is boring, irrelevant or too simple, people will just skim it and go on. It’s that simple.
Second tip: put a bird on it!
Well, not literally, but making something prettier is definitely a way to get someone’s attention.
Donna Mortiz, an award winning visual marketing expert, writes a lot about creating eye catching content, and usually hits the nail on the head with each and every tip she gives, like this awesome list of shortcuts for creating visual content for social media.
One of the tools Donna mentions, which I’ve been using for quite some time now, is Canva. It’s a really awesome web-app, where you can quickly and easily create graphics for your posts, articles and social pages (but not only).
One of the best features in Canva is that you can borrow someone else’s design, in case you don’t have an eye for those things, and just base your graphic on an expert’s design!
Thanks for the mention – nice article Shay!
Thanks! And thanks for the tips!
