There are some great opportunities for teachers on social media to open another channel of communication with their students. Here are the important points.

There are some great opportunities for teachers on social media to open another channel of communication with their students. Here are the important points.

Teachers on social media sounds like a 80’s after-school special

But don’t forget what the most difficult aspect of digital marketing is: finding and reaching your target audience.

Get your pencils and paper out and start taking notes

A great challenge many marketers face, while generating content on social media, is researching content. Well, since teachers already know what they’re talking about in class, then we got that out of the way.

Don’t underestimate this fact, because as a teacher on social media you can very easily repeat material reviewed in class, give examples and make your students interact with you when all they have to do is recall what you said during class.

You can very easily find examples in real life to make your students reflect whether what you taught applies on these examples, or not. That might create discussion and let other students know you’re interesting to follow, since algorithms will feature an account that’s interesting to your friends.

You were saying something about finding a target audience earlier?

“Finding a target audience and reaching 100% of them with every single post is super easy” said no digital marketer ever.

But what if you get to physically meet your target audience almost every day? How would that change the quality of your posts? Would it be easier for you to create content and generate interaction with them?

Knowing that the average age of social media users is still in the millennial area, it’s safe to assume that most of your students are computer oriented and will have at least one social media account.

You could dedicate a lesson to social media, learning what platforms they’re on, what they like to do, and what content you could create that would get them to interact with you.

An example could be finding out that almost all of your 14y.o. science class is on Snapchat. Knowing that Snapchat now allows group chats in it, a science teacher on social media could harness the multi-media aspect of it and post images, video, audio and text mentioning examples of experiments you’ve demonstrated in class. Something similar to what General Electric does on Snapchat.
