How to get your audience’s attention online

Getting your audience’s attention is not an easy task, since the internet is overflown with information, content creators and flying kittens.

Getting your audience's attention is not an easy task, since the internet is overflown with information, content creators and flying kittens.

Look at the pretty colors!

Isn’t that unicorn food thingy amazing? That’ll surely grab anyone’s attention! So why shouldn’t you do it as well?

The keyword is “over-saturated”

The internet is over-saturated, and users have too many choices. Google is trying to help us out, filtering quality content for us. Facebook is trying to help us out showing us only what we are potentially interested in. Snapchat is trying to help us out letting us choose the content we want to consume. Twitter is trying to help us out showing us what we missed while we weren’t paying attention.

But is that really helping? Are people really getting to see what they want to see?

The worst part is that, thanks to this over-saturation, we need to work thrice as hard in order to actually get your audience’s attention.

Graphics

Of course the first thing to talk about are graphics. Be it the featured image of an article, the thumbnail of a video, or the landing page of your website, the first thing the people will see that will make them stop scrolling and click, while you do the CTR dance.

As many marketers know, a picture is worth not a thousand words, but sixty thousand of them. The human brain perceives images 60,000 times faster than text. Being able to insert different elements into an image, allows you to make images more memorable.

Hashtags

A great way to get people to notice your content is to tag it with a hashtag. If you’re not sure what they are or how to use them, check out my past article about using hashtags.

A hashtag will allow people who are interested in your proposal to check out your other stuff containing your hashtag.

Moreover, if a person uses a hashtag, rest assured some of his friends will get curious and click on the hashtag to find out more about it. Oh, did I mention that clicking on the hashtag is enough in order to search for it?
