The reason we all blog

Everybody blogs these days, but why do they do it? What could be so useful that people would actually hold everything and sit down and write consistently?

Everybody blogs these days, but why do they do it? What could be so useful that people would actually hold everything and sit down and write consistently?

Shay, oh Shay, why are you blogging?

For oh so many reasons, but I will start with just three. They’re not simple, so try to keep up.

What’s in a blog?

A blog is basically a feed of articles that you populate with information about the world surrounding an aspect of your life (in most cases, work), which is then divided into categories and indexed so it can be easily browsed by the user.

This brings me immediately to reason number 1:

Showing off

Many people need an outlet for their know-how so that the world will notice them. But that’s only a part of it. From the reader’s view-point we’re actually displaying our know-how to allow the reader to judge whether to work with us or to consult our blog for professional advice.

While there are many really neat websites out there, made with the best graphic and animation schticks CSS and JavaScript can supply, they say absolutely nothing about the owner of the website.

Cramming lots and lots of photos in a portfolio, writing fairy tales about your menu or showing the faces of your team will not supply your potential customer with any real information about the quality of work he is about to pay for.

So show off, write a lot, and try to write about different subjects concerning your professional environment because:

Google loves dynamic content

As important as it is to have About us and What we do pages, they’re static, and people usually don’t search for static page content. Your SEO expert can help you jam a few SEOlicious keywords in there, but that will only get you so far in a search query.
