Social media marketing creates doubts, and one of the most common doubts people have on Quora is about the power of social media for businesses and how it can help them.

While you can invest a lot of time and effort in your content for social media channels, it is all a waste of time if your website visitors don’t know about them.

As we all know, social media is a two-way conversation platform, where you communicate with your followers, and they have a direct channel to communicate with you.

The same goes for the use of social media for marketing purposes: social media will forward people to your website, but your website should forward people to their favorite social media platforms on which you’re active.

The big social media WHY

So one answer to why one should add social media links to one’s website is the make people know about them.

But the real reason is much more profound than that.

When you’re creating a community, what you’re really doing is recruiting an army of advocates who will tell their friends about you. There’s a huge difference between a CEO of a company, or an agency posting positive content about you, and a friend talking about you or simply sharing your content, showing appreciation for your work.

People believe their friends when they recommend something, and are more likely to follow the same business pages if they see their friends faces amongst the fans list.

So what can I do to take advantage of that?

Something important to bear in mind is that people are very sensitive to advertising today, so in case you’re creating an ad campaign with a creative showing off some new product or service, it’s gonna have a hard time going around organically if it looks too advertisment-y.

That’s exactly why your content is going to have to be share-worthy and why you need to accompany your visitors to your social media channels, so that your posts will get shared more and other people will know about you.

Wanna know what the best part about this is? It’s absolutely free! This type of advertising is called “word of mouth” and is a marketer’s dream, so, no, it’s not easy to obtain, but this method makes it much easier.

The recap

  • Get your social media icons on your website, linking to your various channels.
  • Add a share button to your blog articles or special pages (like landing pages).
  • Make sure your content is share-worthy and that it’s not too spammy or looks like an advertisement.
  • And, of course, make sure your product’s quality is up-to-par.
